Junkfest & Loyalty Cards!

Super excited to have a pop-up stall at this year's Junkfest All-dayer - or to give it it's full title Junkfest 3: Dream Warriors.

Junkfest is a non-profit event organised by the awesome shop Junkbox in Chester & the amazing band Campfire Social, who will be playing on the day.

It'll be packed with some of the very best DIY, alt, punk & emo bands from across the UK plus goodie bags, a pop-up Junkbox store & a bunch of limited edition merch.

After paying fair fees to all bands all proceeds go to Tiny Changes.

Hope to see you there! If you can't make it, the shop will be open from 12 as usual with Eva behind the counter.

Loyalty Cards

To coincide with the shop's recent eighth (eighth!) birthday we introduced the Defend Vinyl Loyalty Card.

You can get one free in-store when you spend £20, then another stamp for every £20 you spend after that. Once your Loyalty Card is full you'll have £10 credit to spend on whatever you heart desires in-store. Imagine that! What a deal.

If we don't offer you one, be sure to ask for your Loyalty Card next time you're in!

Full terms & conditions over at our website: https://www.defendvinyl.com/product-page/defend-vinyl-loyalty-card

Our Records Of The Week

Graham says "...the Breeders first album 'Pod' is one of my fave five albums of all time & I've pretty much loved everything they've done since. So I'm really excited about Kim Deal's first solo album, it has those incredible melodies you associate with Kim Deal but in unfamiliar settings"

Eva says "...'Sometimes, Forever' is another Autumn staple of mine, bit of a trend here haha. Standout track is deffo 'Bones''.

Defend Vinyl Records Artist Profile - Puzzle

As our sister record label grows ever bigger, with several releases planned for 2025, we figured now was a good time to introduce you to the artists already on the label starting with Puzzle.

Liverpool trio Puzzle mix heartfelt vocals, intricate guitar parts & beautiful melancholy melodies. Siblings Lucy & David Johnson & close friend Mark Mounsey have been playing together since 2007 & take inspiration from the ‘90s indie scene.

After self-releasing their beloved debut album ‘Sometimes, All Of The Time’ shortly

after forming, Puzzle shied away from rushing out a second album, instead releasing a series of celebrated & sold-out singles & EPs including a split 7” on cult label Polyvinyl with popular US indie band Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

After being stalled by several false starts & multiple lockdowns, finally Puzzle’s

long-awaited second album was ready to be released in 2022. As long-time fans of the band, Defend Vinyl Records were thrilled when they wanted to release the album on our label. In a Sun13 interview Lucy explained "When we first heard about their plans for starting up the label, we quietly hoped they might ask us to put our album out. And they must have read our minds, because they did! Releasing the album through Defend Vinyl Records, with like minded friends, was the perfect match for us. We swiped right. A true romance.”

‘Halfway Home’ is full of amazingly catchy emo-infused indie-pop, with bittersweet

melodies which provoke a sense of nostalgia & longing for the past. Produced by

Paul Rafferty (Hot Club De Paris, Doomshakalaka, Ancient Plastix) & featuring

beautiful hand painted cover art by singer/bassist Lucy, ‘Halfway Home’ could be a

lost classic from the 1990s 4AD catalogue. Despite this it still has the hallmarks of

modern indie-rock yet with a maturity & inventiveness that only comes along with

over a decade of writing, recording & performing together.

Fans of Belly, Lemuria & Rainer Maria will undoubtedly love this album.

‘Halfway Home’ is out now via Defend Vinyl Records, & was preceded by a single ‘Pick An Age’, the video for which was partially filmed in Defend Vinyl itself.
