There was real early buzz around Minus the Bear. After 2001’s This Is What I Know About Being Gigantic, they issued Bands Like It When You Yell “YAR!” At Them, a promo CD built to tee up Highly Refined Pirates with album cuts, an interlude, an exclusive song, and a demo.
What should have been a throwaway sampler stuck around. Handed out at shows in a cardboard slipcase, it became a fan favourite, later reissued in 2004 as a proper jewel-case EP after Highly Refined Pirates took hold. Now, in 2026, it finally lands on vinyl.
It features Spritz!!! Spritz!!!, Women We Haven’t Met Yet, and the exclusive Drop It Like It’s Hot, all capturing the sharp, playful energy of the band’s early years. Remastered for vinyl by Bernie Grundman with lacquers cut at 45rpm, this limited edition of 1000 on Puget Sound-coloured vinyl arrives September 18, 2026.
